About This Spot

Mel’s Fish & Chips is that inviting local spot on Dundas Street where the hum of familiar conversations mingles seamlessly with the comforting scent of freshly fried seafood. Walking in, you immediately sense a down-to-earth atmosphere—unpretentious yet thoughtfully warm—that makes it easy to settle in for a relaxed meal. The walls, adorned with colorful artwork by local hands, add a splash of personality, quietly reminding you that this is a place deeply rooted in community and care.

The pace here is unhurried, the kind of place where tables of longtime regulars and families share the space with friendly chatter and quiet moments of contentment. Staff greet you with genuine smiles, creating a welcoming rhythm that carries from first hello to the last bite. It’s clear that here, food is more than just nourishment—it’s a way to connect.

Mel’s takes traditional fish and chips to a heartfelt place, where each plate arrives with generous portions that feel honest and satisfying, alongside homemade touches like crisp coleslaw and signature tartar sauce. Whether you’re indulging in a classic piece of cod or sampling their specials like pollock or halibut, the experience is grounded in freshness and familiarity. The simple pleasures of golden fries and lightly battered seafood come alive without pretense, inviting diners to slow down and savor.

What stands out most is the unspoken promise of comfort—a carefully maintained balance between familiar flavors and the quiet pride of a neighborhood kitchen. Mel’s isn’t just about the catch of the day; it’s about creating a space where good food and warm company meet in a way that feels natural, local, and quietly joyful.

Fresh fish. Homemade delicious coleslaw. Homemade delicious tartar sauce. And a couple of old regulars at a table. We knew walking in it would be a great meal and it was.

I can't say enough great things about Mels. Their staff make it a personal experience time for our family. We order from them on special occasions and each time they make it amazing. From the customer service that goes above and beyond and the amazing food. Mels are great from the moment they say hello to the last crumb off your plate. If you are looking for a dinning experience either in their house or yours look no further because you have found it in Mel's Fish & Chips.

On Thursday, Friday & and Saturday, Mels features a special on Pollock. Your meal starts with a small, simple, tasty homemade cabbage salad. As a couple, we order a two-piece Pollock plus we order an extra piece of fish, then we split the large order of fries we get with the two-piece meal. The decor is art produced by local artist, large hand painted picture decorate all the walls. They have a full menu, they always aim to please, I always leave feeling very satisfied.

I like cod, french fries are just so so, but fried fish is great. Service is good, the waitress over there is a very nice little girl, always be very patien. The enviroment is clean and bright. If I have chance to be woodstock again, definitely I will come here again.

Just wanted to try Mel's so we drove to Woodstock on Wed. The fish and chips are both generous portions and very good. Service is down home friendly. Good place and recommended for good food.

Best Fish and chips in Woodstock for many years. Excellent service and they will take cash for "pay a meal forward" (for someone in need)

Wonderful experience. Like stepping back in time. Everything was super delicious. Ordered fried scallops and fish and chips. Coleslaw super unique and better than the traditional kind I get in the states.

This place is always busy for dine in and takeout whenever we’re in. We pick-up fish & chips here for dinner every so often. They have several options and fry things up to order. The service staff is friendly. Everything we’ve bought has been tasty, although it can be greasy/oily, but you’re getting fish and chips, so that’s expected ;) They always serve MASSIVE portions!
